My name is WEN. I have a day job in a documentary production company. I started as an editor in the industry but in the recent years, I took up other roles such as producing, directing, writing and some shooting. I have worked with numerous production houses such as Red Communications, Novista and Rack Focus Films in Malaysia and Oak3 Films in Singapore, editing documentaries and factual programmes for History Channel, Crime & Investigation Network and Mediacorp.
In 2010, I made my first short film, Like Toy Dolls, after graduating from university. The mockumentary of baby dumping was awarded the Grand Prize of BMW Shorties amongst accolades. The film also picked up several international and local awards in various film festivals. I also made another short film which won several awards at the first Kuala Lumpur 48hour Film Project that year.
I pledged to myself that I will make at least one short film a year since then. In 2011, I made two short films; and I made two experimental films and documentary in 2012. My films have been screened in Seoul, San Francisco, Hollywood, California, Switzerland, Singapore and around the region. To date, I’m the only female filmmaker who has won the BMW Shorties, one of the most prestigious local short film competitions in Malaysia.
So will you help me make my film in 2013?

The Film
I wrote a script entitled Chicken in 2008 during my Masters degree course. The idea originated from my mother’s weekly ritual of cooking steamed chicken for dinner every Monday. Despite her enthusiasm for steamed chicken, I grew sick of it after having it every Monday. Fast forward five years later in 2013, my mother is still serving the same dish every Monday.
Chicken centres around the story of a housewife, Mui (coincidentally my mother’s name) who prepared a steamed chicken for dinner. And what will be going on next? Stay tuned for the story.
Our Team
I’m really honoured to have a very talented highschool friend and longtime collaborator, Zach Tay who has agreed to come onboard as my music producer. Zach is the founder of Orchestre Nouveau in Melbourne, Australia. He has conducted concerts in BMW Edge Theatre in Federation Square and most recently for Juwita Suwito with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra in Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, KLCC.
Budget
The amount that I’m trying to raise will only cover some production costs as I already have access to some basic resources and skills to produce the film. I’m just raising the bare minimum that I need.
I’d really appreciate and thank you for your generosity to help me in making this film a reality.
